World vegetarian day

1st of October is a day when eating meat should not be an option - World Vegetarian Day. It is a day which celebrates vegetarianism as a lifestyle and strives to raise awareness on all the benefits such a lifestyle has to offer.

Established in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society it soon gained worldwide recognition by the International Vegetarian Union.

World vegetarian day is not limited to one day though. It also marks the beginning of Vegetarian Awareness Month; a month which reaches its peak with World Vegan Day on November 1st.

The exact number of vegetarians in the world is unknown. According to available information India is the most vegetarian country with almost 30 %  inhabitants practicing vegetarianism. Not only is a vegetarian diet healthier, by changing your diet, you can also decrease your impact on the environment. By saying no to meat products, you can easily halve your carbon footprint.

YEE is aware of the importance of vegetarianism and does more than just offer moral support to the cause - we put our money where our mouth is. Vegetarian diets are included in YEE policies - when organising events we serve vegetarian or vegan dishes only. By doing so we encourage and provoke participants to rethink their eating habits. Moreover, YEE office staff frequently practices vegetarianism. Last but not least, we strive to promote healthier and environmentally friendlier feeding habits with our projects and campaigns.
