Can you introduce yourself?
Hey, I am Janis, I am 29 years old and I come from the middle of the Baltic states - Latvia. I am working in the organisation "Balta Daba" as a project coordinator and as a bartender in a small alternative bar in Jelgava city.
Which YEE member organisation do you belong to? What are the main activities of your organisation?
I belong to the organisation called "Balta Daba" what in translation means "white nature". So you can guess that it is all about the nature in our organisation. "Balta Daba" aim is to promote youth involvement in preservation and restoration of natural and cultural values. We organise hikes, lectures about the preservation of nature for pupils and river cleaning activities in different places in Latvia.
How did you get involved in YEE? What was your first impression about YEE?
"Balta Daba" has been involved in YEE for some time now already, so as I became a member of "Balta Daba" I got to hear a lot of nice stories about the accomplished projects and campaigns. So the day came, and I did participate in an YEE training course and since than if I have some time I try to follow all the news and information about YEE, because it is an organisation that not only informs but also involves youth in making a difference in the world.
What is YEE for you?
YEE is motivation, old friends, new friends, happy faces, making a change, caring for nature and ideas.
Why did you want to become a member of YEE Board?
I feel that I can and want to give more for YEE than just being a member of it, and that I can help with some of this year's tasks.
What are your expectations about being in the Board?
I expect that it will be a lot of new information to learn and to understand and it will be interesting to work together with so experienced and interesting people. I know that we all will have a great and productive year.
What is your main aim as a 2015 - 2016 Board member?
I want to know more about the organisation and help YEE as much as I can, so it becomes even a better place to work, participate and make a change.
Why do you care about the environment? or What does the environment mean to you?
There are still a lot of people in the world, who live just for one day, they pollute the Earth, throw out the garbage in the forests, cut down forests and don't think about the consequences, they don't think about their children. I want to help changing those people, I want that people learn and understand the problems they are causing to the environment.
