Zaruhi Stepanyan - Chairperson

Can you introduce yourself?

I am Zara and I am 25 years old․ I have obtained my master's degree in May and am currently working in an International Department of a big governmental organisation in Armenia.

Which YEE member organisation do you belong to? What are the main activities of your organisation?

I am from Khazer NGO which is actively working on awareness raising of environmental issues in different regions of Armenia. However, we also implement environmental projects, such as installation of solar panels in schools, and restoration of river streams.

How did you get involved in YEE? What was your first impression about YEE?

I learnt about YEE in 2011. We applied for membership in YEE and I was invited to present my organisation at Annual Meeting. When I came to the Annual Meeting 2012 I was elected as the External Relations Officer and I was re-elected 3 times on that position. A year later I became Project Officer. This year I was elected as Chairperson.

What is YEE for you?

YEE for me is the family where I can easily share my thoughts and ideas (even the most crazy ones:) and gain experience in how to "run" an organisation and how to work in international environment.

Why did you want to stay/change position in YEE Board?

During the 4 years I have been in YEE, I worked on external development, projects' implementation, cooperation with different organisations. However, the position of Chairperson is quite different of all that and has always been of my great interest.

What is your main aim as a 2016 - 2017 Board member?

My main aim for this year would be to make the work of YEE office and Board more smooth, find the best ways of working and cooperating with each other and finally to have a lot of great time with great people.

Why do you care about the environment? What does the environment mean to you?

The environment for me is the place where I live. I want to see it healthy.
