Call for Prep-Team Members: Time for YOUth to Speak Climate

Youth and Environment Europe is announcing an open call for members of a preparatory team for the Training Course “Time for YOUth to Speak Climate” as a part of its long-term project “Youth Digital Communic[ACTION]” !

The aim of the long-term project is to support and empower young people and youth organisations in developing their digital communication skills and strategies, to help them communicate their messages and concerns about the current climate crisis efficiently in the digital environment and to have a long-term impact on environmental decision-making.

The “Youth Digital Communic[ACTION]” project is composed of two international trainings.

The first activity – Training Course “Time for YOUth to Speak Climate” will take place in Estonia from 22nd to 28th November 2021. The five-day Training Course will bring together 20 young people from all over Europe. During the training we will explore current climate communication trends and learn how to be more effective in digital communication to participate and influence the local level environmental decision-making.

With this activity we would like to equip young people from environmental movements, informal groups and NGOs with digital communication and skills so that they can adapt, implement and improve aforementioned strategies in their climate communication.

The objectives of the training course “Time for YOUth to Speak Climate” are:

  • to train 20 young climate activists in developing digital communication strategies and online campaigning while equipping them with digital skills;
  • to explore the best practices in climate communications strategies and provide essential knowledge for participating organisations so that they can have effective outreach and greater impact on environmental policies;
  • to create space for knowledge and experience sharing in the field of climate communication, youth participation and local initiatives among digital climate activists, experts, young workers and youth organisations.

Responsibilities:

The main responsibility of the prep-team is preparation of the project phases with the full support of a trainer and YEE Project Manager.

In particular:

  • Design, preparation, implementation and facilitation of the programme and sessions based on non-formal education methodology and experiential learning;
  • Preparation and dissemination of the participant call and selection of participants;
  • Preparation of participants for the event and providing them with all the necessary information regarding the program;
  • Invitation and communication with speakers, experts, trainers and partners in accordance with the project aims;
  • Taking care of practicalities and the general well-being of the participants;
  • Coordination of the follow-up activities and support with the final reporting of the project.

As a Prep-team member you should:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old coming from the programme countries*;
  • Have good communication skills and speak English well (they should be able to clearly express yourself both orally and in writing);
  • Be a youth worker actively involved in environmental youth organisations, youth climate movement and/or environmental youth projects;
  • Have working/ studying experience with the topics of the training course: environmental issues, sustainability, youth movements, NGOs, digital communication, social media, youth participation and political lobbying;
  • Welcome new challenges as learning opportunities;
  • Be willing to support the rest of the group and be a team-player;
  • Be willing and motivated to share the knowledge and skills from the training course with their colleagues from the organisation and within their communities;
  • Commit to the aims and objectives of the project, follow-up activities and YEE values.

*Programme countries include: Czech Republic, Austria, Estonia, France, Hungary and Italy

  • Be available for the following dates:
    • Regular online meetings prior the event (October 2021 – November 2021 // 2-3 hours/week);
    • Live prep team meeting in Prague between 15 – 17 October 2021 (arrival on 15th departure on 17th in the evening);
    • Preparation Days and Training Course in Estonia between 22-28 November 2021;
    • Evaluation meeting after the training course on 28 November 2021;

Being a prep-team member at a YEE project would offer you:

  • Volunteering in an international environmental youth network ;
  • Experience in project coordination & managing youth projects – preparation, implementation, evaluation, follow up and reporting;
  • Experience in non-formal education and experiential learning training and facilitation;
  • To extend your knowledge about environmental organisations, NGOs, grassroots movements, youth actions and projects;
  • The possibility of holding different roles for the future YEE activities/projects and receiving a recommendation letter from YEE!

Volunteers in the preparatory team will be given the opportunity to work with us on the whole year long project!

Methodology:
The program will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for active, inclusive and direct communication and transfer and sharing of knowledge. Sessions will be balanced between theoretical inputs, training, workshops, discussions, reflection, planning and brainstorming using specific non-formal education tools and other interactive methods of learning.

Practicalities:

Accommodation, food, working space, travel and visa costs for the preparatory team will be fully covered.
