Do you believe that young people should play a central role in shaping how we respond to the challenge of our climate emergency? Do you want to campaign with other young people to raise awareness and implement action to support communities already feeling the impacts of our changing climate? Then we would love to hear from you. Join us for the upcoming European youth consultation on climate adaptation!
On Thursday 17th September 2020 at 12:00 PM CEST, YEE is partnering up with the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) to hold an online European youth consultation on climate adaptation. GCA is hosting regional youth consultations around the world as part of its Youth Adaptation Network (YAN), and all of the input from attendants will play an important role in giving voice to young people as part of a “Call to Action” to be delivered to global leaders at the 2021 Climate Adaptation Summit in the Netherlands on the 25th January.
YEE and GCA are holding this virtual consultation to learn how the needs of young people from different regions across Europe and from a variety of backgrounds can be better supported in the challenge to accelerate climate adaptation. It will begin with an introduction to YEE and to GCA’s different programmes for youth, followed by a brief explanation of climate adaptation and what it involves. Then, two of YEE’s Liaison Officers from its new Advocacy Working Group will facilitate breakout rooms where they will ask questions about how best young Europeans can be involved in this issue.
Climate adaptation is the process of adjustment to climate change by taking action to moderate and avoid harm or to exploit beneficial opportunities. Even if emissions are stabilized relatively soon, global warming and the effect of a changing climate will last many years to come so adaptation is vital. GCA works as a solutions broker to accelerate adaptation solutions, from the international to the local level and in partnership with the public and private sector.
All are welcome! Together let’s #AdaptforOurFuture!
YEE aims to unite environmental youth non-profit organisations in Europe in order to enhance international cooperation, increase knowledge about nature, raise awareness of environmental problems and to strengthen participation of youth in environmental decision-making.
