EVS blog
My first EVS month is over and boy, it went fast. Many things have happened, of which you might read about some other time, but for now let us focus on the event that marked the end of the month - the EVS on-arrival training.
It was all supposed to happen in a picturesque village close to the Austrian border. Around 20 of us ought to wake up every morning beside a castle overlooking the village and Vltava river. Being surrounded by nature we would have outside activities and even go canoeing.
Sustainability is a word that is lately not hard to come by. Governments, scientists, companies, and ordinary people - they all talk sustainability. Some more than others though. But what is it really? Well, it ends up being just a word if not backed up by actual deeds.
This leads us to the first sustainability day in Prague. As it happens, it took place on my first weekend in Prague and was also my first YEE event. To avoid cutting a short story even shorter, let's first look at other things that happened in previous days.
I was wondering a lot about the topic of my personal project and I knew that I would like to deal with a subject that I am really interested in and by creating it, I can learn more about the topic and get new skills. When I thought over the usual way of raising environmental awareness, I realized that most of the time people can feel blamed or guilty because of their unsustainable behaviour or their lack of knowledge. That's why I wanted to turn around this approach and focus on rewarding techniques, out of which people can get something positive for their environmentally friendly efforts.
I already said goodbye in a different section on the website and you can read my short and final thoughts there.
What I would like to dedicate this article to, my last article in this EVS Blog, is my mini-project. A short info what a mini-project is: it is something that every EVS volunteer needs to do during his/ her EVS and this project should reflect the learnings and knowledge received in the organisation where the volunteering was done. Also, the mini-project should benefit the organisation.
Being a part of YEE's office, I can honestly say that I am constantly subjected to new learning opportunities. These things can be useful not only for the place I am working at the moment, but also for some future professional and personal situations.
In order to learn and inspire each other, every year YEE organises its Learning Days, during which it gives space to the people in the office to offer the others a topic they all find interesting.
