The YEE office team took part in the World Water Monitoring Day, the international event that aims to raise awareness towards the protection of water resources. YEE participates in the event every year and collects important data from different rivers and lakes in the Czech Republic.

This year we organised a trip to Nymburk, on the 6th of November, to test the water of rivers Labe and Velké Valy and the lake next to the small village Písty. Nymburk is a small town located 45 km east of Prague, which has several water resources, most of them originating from the river Labe.

During the activity we made four sets of tests on the water. First, we analysed the lake close to the small village called Písty. We obtained the following results:
Water temperature: 10°C
Dissolved Oxygen level: 2 ppm (parts per million)
PH level: 8.5
Turbidity: 60 JTU

After that, we tested the river Labe in two spots, with the following results:
Water temperature: 11°C (first spot); 9°C (second spot)
Dissolved Oxygen level: 2 ppm (first spot); 1 ppm (second spot)
PH level: 7 (first spot); 8 (second spot)
Turbidity: 40 JTU (both spots)

Our last testing was in the small river Velké Valy, which surrounds the old centre of Nymburk. Here the results were the following:
Water temperature: 10°C
Dissolved Oxygen level: 6 ppm
PH level: 6.5
Turbidity: 35 JTU

According to the results, the water in the lake of Písty, was not in great conditions, but the numbers are still acceptable. The water in the river Labe is rather clean, considering the size of the river and the fact that there are some factories that pour their residual water in it (including the malt company in Nymburk).

The day was not only a chance to do some testing on the water resources, but also a great opportunity for the team to spend some time together, play team-building games, as well as have a walk in the forest and in the beautiful town of Nymburk. At noon we all had a delicious lunch in one of Nymburk's local restaurants.
