Every year YEE takes part in the World Water Monitoring Day. This international initiative aims to raise awareness in the topic of water protection with the following steps: you order the water monitoring kit on the website, visit a water body, test its quality by following the attached instructions and finally share the results on the website.

This year, we, EVS volunteers, according to the office tradition, were in charge of organising the event. It gave us a good opportunity to spend some time outside away from the office and discover some of the rivers of the Czech Republic. We traveled by train to Kralupy nad Vltavou, a small town in the north from Prague, on the 18th of November. We tested the quality of water of the river Vltava and two other small water resources which originate from it.

During the day, we took five different water samples from different points. Here are the results:

Dissolved Oxygen level: 2 ppm
PH level: 7
Turbidity: 40 JTU

Site 2: Knovizsky potok
Dissolved Oxygen level: 2 ppm
PH level: 8
Turbidity: 20 JTU

Site 3: Two small stream together
Dissolved Oxygen level: 2 ppm
PH level: 7
Turbidity: 40 JTU

Site 4:Vltava (before small river)
Dissolved Oxygen level: 1 ppm
PH level: 7
Turbidity: 30 JTU

Site 5:Vltava
Dissolved Oxygen level: 3 ppm
PH level: 6,5
Turbidity: 60 JTU

According to the results the water in the rivers was not in great conditions, but the numbers are still acceptable.

After taking the samples, we all had a great lunch in one of Kralupy nad Vltavou's restaurants and a small walk to the lookout tower. It was a nice activity, which brought all of us closer to the environmental research and protection.
