World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5 June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP). Since 1974 WED was held every year with different themes like "Development Without Destruction", "A Tree for Peace", "Global Warming; Global Warning", "Water: Vital Resource for Life" and many more.

The WED theme this year is "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care." This theme is about how the well-being of humanity, the environment and economies depends on the responsible management of the planet's natural resources as people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide. Considering the current consumption and production patterns with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion by 2050 we will need three planets to sustain our way of life. Living sustainably and consuming with care means doing more and better with less within planetary boundaries to ensure a healthy future.

During the last WED celebrations, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world and from all sectors of society have participated in individual and organized environmental actions.

Celebrate the WED by doing something positive for the environment because every action counts and generates a positive impact on the planet.
