Project description:
The idea of the project was suggested by the representative of FYCA at the Annual Meeting 2014 of YEE. The need for this project was identified and suggested by FYCA as the organisation works on environmental projects in Armenia and they were concerned about the impact of war conflicts on the environment.
The concerns about environmental catastrophes caused by the armed conflicts were the main motivation to suggest the project.
The young people involved in the work of environmental and social NGOs would like to draw the attention to this issue in their countries, to improve the environmental situation in former conflicts areas, but also to promote peace building on the examples of catastrophic environmental consequences of war conflicts. However, they might find it hard to organise projects in their local communities or to work with local municipalities – they might lack the experience of organising projects or struggle with finding ideas for future projects.
This youth exchange will be organised for young people who are concerned about the environment of their home countries as well as war conflicts from the past or present. They would like to draw the attention of local communities but also international organisations to raise the awareness of devastating impacts of war conflicts. This project will bring together participants from various European countries – the participants will share their stories, experiences and ideas with each other and will work together on creating tools of organising awareness-raising projects.
Aim and objectives:
The aim of the project is to share experiences and knowledge about environmental impact of war conflicts and develop the competences of young people in organising peace-building and awareness-raising projects.
Objectives of the project:
- To exchange the knowledge and experiences about the environmental impact of war conflicts in the participating countries.
- To develop the skills in organising awareness-raising campaigns and projects.
- To discuss how to add the topic of environmental impact of war conflicts into peace-building movement in post-conflict areas.
- To build new international partnerships for future projects connected with the topic of the youth exchange.
- To plan future youth projects focused on environmental protection in war conflict zones.
