Information Event on “Environmental Management Systems” |
On Wednesday, February 16th 2011 an information event on "Environmental Management Systems", jointly organized by Youth and Environment Europe (YEE), Peter Fischer Managementberatung and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Berlin (IHK Berlin), will take place in Berlin. When: Wednesday, 16. February 2011, 16 - 19 In times of scarce resources and a growing number of environmentally conscious customers it is an asset for small and medium size enterprises of the industrial sector to become aware of their responsibility towards the environment and future generations. Environmental Management Systems provide a framework to tackle the environmental issues of an organisation.
Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) are a planned and organised - aka systematic - way of handling the environmental issues of an organisation. Knowledge about an organisation's environmental impact and compliance with the environmental legislation form the base of EMS. The organisation has to develop and maintain a suitable organizational structure and control system in order to manage environmental issues. The control system used within an organisation (e.g. internal audit and control of the input and output of an organisation) show the potential areas for improvement on a regular basis. Moreover as part of their EMS organisation set objectives and targets that lead to the improvement of environmental protection at their workplace. A certification through an accredited body confirms the compliance with official standards and might be used as effective publicity. The informative event forms part of the series of local activities carried out under the umbrella of YEE's project "Environmental Audit",which is financed by the "Europe for Citizens" Programme of the European Commission. The project started in August 2010 and will last until the end of March 2011. So far, an international training course has taken place (September 16th to 22nd 2010, Bělá u Jevíčka, Czech Republic) and several workshops have been held at the national level (e.g. "Workshop on International Activities and Ecomapping", November 16th 2010, Prague ).
