During the Annual Meeting 2011, Youth and Environment Europe decided to organise some projects to promote and develop women's leadership skills. This decision was made as a result of the realisation that women are underrepresented in leadership positions and are proportionately less likely to initiate and direct environmental and grassroots activities.

From the 27th to the 29th of April 2012, participants from 11 different countries came together in Ohrid, Macedonia to discuss the situation and position of women in their local communities and to brainstorm ideas for actions which could help to increase the percentage of women in leadership positions in their communities.

The diversity of the participants involved led to an interesting cross cultural examination of the position of women in society and the range of activities that would be necessary to address the challenges and obstacles to their progression. The scenic backdrop of Lake Ohrid provided a stimulating environment for participants to consider the themes of the feasibility visit and to work together to generate a variety of inspirational project ideas which will help to empower the women in their area and assist in the development of their skills and capabilities.
