On the 26th of May a hardy group of 9 volunteers met at 9am for the annual Tamjdem event in Toulcuv Dvur. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of a Tamjdem, it is an informal way to volunteer without the need for long term commitment. Set up in 2007, volunteers meet up for a weekend of helping, socializing and fun.

This year Duha and YEE worked together to organize a work day in Toulcuv Dvur.

The main task was to restore the model medieval house situated near the fire pit of the farm. Volunteer’s repaired the straw roof piece by piece, tying bundles of straw together and then lashing them to the struts of the bare roof. A second bunch of volunteers got their feet dirty mixing up cob, which is clay, straw and water in order to re-plaster the internal and external walls.

Once this main task was completed volunteers then moved on to the easier jobs cleaning windows, cooking lunch and digging a ditch. After all the hard work some relaxing was in order and the volunteers (joined by friends) cooked dinner around a bonfire and shared beer and conversation.
