One of the goals in my EVS project is to get involved in Czech society. To know their traditions and enjoy the culture.
Mikulas is a Christian Czech tradition celebrated on 5th of December. It has similarities to Santa Claus. Mikulas gives presents to the kids who have been good during the year. There is also a Čert (devil) who goes together with Mikulas scaring "bad" kids.

I do not like to make kids cry, but I was asked to dress up as a Čert in Toulcuv Dvur this year. It was my task to perform as a naughty evil devil scaring kids. Surprisingly I am very good at it and many kids cried watching me but they smiled when I smiled and gave them some apples.

During that day there were many activities in the farm such as concerts, workshops and a handcraft market full of very beautiful traditional Christmas decorations and gifts.

I enjoyed it a lot even though sometimes I felt lost when kids spoke to me in Czech and I was not able to answer them. My Czech is still ''maly''.

As Gosia told me at the beginning of my EVS: ''It depends on you to enjoy the EVS'' and do not hesitate is the best to participate in those opportunities to be involve in Czech culture.
