From April 15 to May 22 2015, the "Young Biologists Association" NGO, in collaboration with the Chair of Zoology and Chair of Botany and Mycology of Yerevan State University, organises "Biodiversity of the year 2015" environmental campaign.

Public voting

Animal of the year, Plant of the year, Fungus of the year and Lichen of the year will be chosen by public voting during the campaign. Each category is represented by three species. For voting please click here.

After voting, the participants will have the opportunity to participate in the competition. The winners of the competition will receive prizes. Voting results will be announced on May 22 2015, which is the International Day for Biological Diversity.

Photo Contest

As a part of the campaign, a photo contest for people younger than 30 will be announced. The photo should depict any type of plant, animal, fungus or lichen. For participation, you must send the photo in electronic version, write the name of the species, write your name and surname, e-mail address and telephone number to our email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The pictures will be posted on Facebook, and the winners will be chosen by online public voting and jury decision. Results will be announced on May 22 2015. The winners will receive prizes.

Educational seminars

Educational seminars will be organised in schools and universities of Armenia during the campaign. The first seminar took place on April 15 in the educational complex "Ohanyan". During the seminar, several presentations on Armenia's biodiversity were held.

An environmental campaign called "Biodiversity of the year 2015" was organised as a part of the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011-2020 and supported by the Rufford Foundation.
