Association "BALTA DABA" carried out project "SKRIEN, GAUJA, SKRIEN" which is still ongoing until December 2013, but the main activities were carried out in joint works in August and September of this year.

The main goals were to make young people contribute to the protection of the longest river in Latvia – Gauja and to motivate local people to take a part in the protection of the local environment. During the joint work members of association aimed to restore some parts of the Gauja, taking wood out of it and putting stones in, with an aim to increase the level of oxygen in the river.

This was all carried out in four two-day joint works. We also invited locals (associations and youth groups) to help us with these activities, and some of them really participated. We can say we did a great job and also had a lot of fun doing it!

• Our first joint work – getting rid of the fallen trees in river Gauja
• Our second joint work – territory improvement around Gauja's shores
• Our third joint work – collecting stones for river!
• And the final joint work – putting stones in the river and increasing levels of oxygen, therefore „putting more life" in Gauja.

At the end of the project participants will make presentations about project in local schools with a goal to increase their awareness about environment protection.
