EDEN's Hiking Guide

EDEN Center create and provide a hiking guide for Divjakë-Karavasta National Park

In the framework of the project "Bringing Karavasta Lagoon back to life" financed by The Democracy Commission Small Grants Program of the Embassy of United States of America in Tirana and implemented by EDEN center, a hiking guide for Divjakë-Karavasta National Park has been published in September 2011.
Through this hiking guide, the first of its kind for the area, EDEN center has the pleasure to bring into your view and your interest the attractions of one of the most famous Albanian Ramsar wetlands.
The guide provides information for seven suggested hiking and bird watching routes in the park accompanied with pictures and GPS coordinates and maps. Through the pages, apart from history and culture of the area, you can find interesting and useful information on how to get there, accommodation and other services in and around the national park.

Since the beginning, in March 2004, EDEN center has been very active in promoting ecotourism and offering possibilities and opportunities to people to explore and feel the nature. In this frame a lot of work is being done from the Nature Guides group. They explore new itineraries around Albania get experienced in the field trips, mapping techniques in order to offer such information and services for all nature lovers.
This acquired experience is very valuable in aiming at publications of this kind, and this enthusiasm became true in the framework of the project "Bringing Karavasta Lagoon back to life". In this project we aimed at enforcing sustainable development in this protected area by promoting ecotourism as well as civilized and democratic behavior of local community and daily visitors.

This hiking guide is one of the tools we are using for promoting ecotourism in the area and one of the most important outputs.

In order to be accessible for the potential visitors, the guide has been distributed in different tour operators in Tirana and is published on EDEN center webpage (http://eden-al.org/media/Divjake-Karavasta%20Hiking%20Guide.pdf). The tracks with the description accompanied with photographs are online in two GPS outdoor tracks (Wikiloc: www.wikiloc.com and EveryTrail: www.everytrail.com).
