Ecosystem and people workshop in Latvia

The workshop took place on March 2012 at the Ergli Secondary School and there were 18 youngsters between 13-17 years old present. They were reminded about the aims and content of the ECO campaign and presented the topic of the workshop. To realize the knowledge of participants about the ecology topic, the work in smaller groups was organized. Each group received one environmental problem and had to describe it. Afterwards groups were exchanging the papers and had to add the comments. In a big circle groups presented their work, discussion was led by the facilitator.

Topics for the groups:

1) What problems are caused by the pollution?
2) The growth of population - how has it changed the environment?
3) How does the establishment of different technologies influence the nature?
In the end the task was given: each participant has to study how Ergli (the hometown of participants) has been changed in the last 70 years.

Conclusions by participants:

Marta Suveizda (17 years old): I really like the idea of this project and I am so excited about it. I am very happy about the opportunity to participate in ECO project.

Kalvis Kaļva (14 years old): It was interesting to listen and discuss the topics that are related with the nature. In generally I liked it.

Līva Āboliņa-Ābola (15 years old): We got acquainted with the themes. I like it, especially that we will be able to work practically - study, research, go into the nature and to get to know new things.
