Sustainable Lifestyle workshop in Latvia

On April 10, the 4th workshop took place in the Ergli Secondary School in Latvia. In this workshop the facilitator gave a short introduction about the topic - sustainable development. 18 participants got to know the basic issues that define sustainable development and impact sustainable lifestyle. The great part of participants first time heard about this concept and did not hide their further interest to understand more. We were discussing what conditions and changes of environment (that are related with human actions) influence the process of sustainable development. During the workshop participants could transfer those ideas to the topics that we had already gone through during the campaign, and participants concluded that all the topics are more or less related with the process of sustainable lifestyle.
Latvia in its development and actions still resembles to the basic principles of sustainable lifestyle, however, undeniable, we feel the impact of the Western Europe and global processes. Nevertheless, participants really liked the cognition - thinking globally, acting locally, thus not only every country should develop its own strategy how to organize the subsequent development of the country's environment, but also in regional aspect should be some individual plans in the framework of sustainable lifestyle.

Conclusions by participants:

Sergejs Jegorskis (7th class): After this workshop I came to the conclusion, if all over the world we would live according to the basic principles of sustainable development then most probably there would not be presumptions about the end of our planet and the humanity could live without the threats about the extinction.

Laura Auguste (8th class): I understand that in the grounds of the concept of sustainable development and lifestyle are really simple, however I also understand that the ideal version how to live - individually and all together. Nevertheless, not always we can do it, so I think that we should invite people to think about it and to discuss about it, as well as to try to resemble our daily activities to the sustainable lifestyle.
