Another successful meeting was organised within the project “Environmental challenge accepted”. The second project meeting took place on 4-6 November 2016 in Porto, Portugal and was hosted by OPE, one of the partner organisations of this project.

The project “Environmental challenge accepted” is coordinated by BALTA DABA (Latvia) and includes 5 partner organisations, including YEE. You can read more about this project here.

As in the meeting before (August 2016, Estonia) 2 representatives of each partner attended this event. A lot of useful work was done during these 3 days.

Like many years before, YEE again took part in the international World Water Monitoring Challenge. WWMC is an initiative which aims to raise awareness on water pollution issues and involve people in water resource protection. People are encouraged to carry out basic monitoring and thereby help to assess the state of water bodies worldwide.

On the 27th of October YEE team headed to Příbram, a picturesque town 60 kilometres south of Prague. Příbram spreads along the Litavka river and is surrounded by several smaller hills (the so called Brdy range). One of them, named Svatá Hora (Holy Mountain), has a baroque church and monastery on top and is a famous pilgrimage site. In addition, the town is known for its mining heritage.

World Vegetarian Day marked October and we devoted the whole month to raise vegetarian awareness. And today, on 1 November we can celebrate World Vegan Day! It was established in 1994 by Louise Wallis to commemorate 50th anniversary of term “vegan” and “veganism”.

Veganism is the practice, targeted on refraining from using animal products. This means avoiding not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and honey. Several types of veganism can be found: dietary veganism (as described above) and ethical veganism – people who follow it also extend the philosophy beyond diet into any other purpose (for example using leather, fur). Ethical aspect of the vegan philosophy can be found in the Vegan's Society definition of veganism - “Veganism represents a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, other animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, other animals and the environment”.

On the 24th of October 2016 Office cuisine's Autumn Recipe Competition was successfully completed. We received very interesting recipes, and we are ready to share them with you.

This time we have two wonderful recipes. Ketevan Pasikashvili from Georgia made her favourite vegetarian recipe – Mchadi, Eggplant with garlic, Ajica, Pickled cucumbers and peppers. Each item of the recipe can be also prepared separately and mixed with your favourite side dishes! The recipe is just in time for the rainy and flu season and going to make you warm and comfortable (especially Ajica:)) Christiane Klemm from Germany prepared a delicious Spelt-Pumpkin-Risotto.
