1st of October is a day when eating meat should not be an option - World Vegetarian Day. It is a day which celebrates vegetarianism as a lifestyle and strives to raise awareness on all the benefits such a lifestyle has to offer.
Established in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society it soon gained worldwide recognition by the International Vegetarian Union.
World vegetarian day is not limited to one day though. It also marks the beginning of Vegetarian Awareness Month; a month which reaches its peak with World Vegan Day on November 1st.
The European Citizens Initiative striving for soil protection was launched on the 22nd of September in Turin, Italy.
Soils are facing numerous threats, from erosion and loss of organic matter to urbanisation and contamination, to name just a few. Degraded soils result in negative impacts on human health, food security, biodiversity and climate - and all summed up on our economy as well.
Once per year Member Organisations, YEE secretariat and Executive Board members all gather in one place for the Annual Meeting of YEE. The event does not only offer an overview on the network's past activities, but also sets goals for its short and long term future work.
This year's meeting took place from 30th August to 1st September, in the same venue as last year, ecological center Toulcuv Dvur in Prague, Czech Republic. 31 delegates participated in a varied programme comprised of presentations, discussions and votings.
Hello, my name is Diana, I am a newcomer EVS volunteer from Russia. Some time ago I got interested in voluntary work. In a school and university I got some experience in volunteering, and now I decided to devote the entire year to this kind of work. I believe that volunteering gives an opportunity to discover your abilities, to discover yourself.
7 days, 32 participants, 14 partner organisations, 13 countries, 25 sessions, 2 trainers, 1 ecological centre, numerous new friendships and opportunities for future cooperation. These are but a few words and numbers, with which we can describe "Be(e) the change" - a training course organised by YEE.
Participants from across Europe gathered in the end of August in Prague, Czech Republic. This training course was an opportunity for them to share their experiences in campaigning and to improve their skills in organising future environmental educational campaigns. All this in the beautiful surroundings of the ecological centre Toulcův Dvůr.
