The 5th of June is World Environmental Day. It is the United Nations' most important day for encouraging international awareness and action in environmental protection. It is hosted every year in a new country, this year it is in Angola. This day will also focus on highlighing the environmental challenges that Angola is facing. The main challenge for this country is to restore its elephant herds. The UN also encourages countries and people to register activities they organised for this day. This week is the European Week for Sustainable Development. It was created last year and it takes place every year between the 30th of May and the 5th of June. This event was created this week to put together the initiatives from all around Europe concerning sustainable development. This event is also promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN for the period 2015-2030. You can find them here: https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/sdgs
On 20-21 May the European Parliament in Strasbourg became, once again, the host of thousands of young people from all across Europe participating in the European Youth Event 2016. The event was launched in 2014 and it takes place every two years, inviting young people to raise their voice on European matters as well as global ones.
This year, YEE had the opportunity to participate as delegates of the group organised by International Young Naturefriends (IYNF) at the event.
Today, May 22th, is the International Day for Biodiversity. This special day has been created by the United Nations to increase the understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues after the writing of the Convention for Biological Diversity. The theme of this year is "Mainstreaming biodiversity, sustaining people and their livelihoods".
It does not matter if you live in the city or the countryside, along the sea or in the middle of mountains; biodiversity is everywhere; but what is it exactly?
Hello, I am Amelys, the new intern of YEE. Just to let you know myself a bit more, I come from France and I am actually still a student. I am now in my last year, doing a Master of International Law and Politics.
My parents always lived in the countryside, in the south of France, and they still are – so for me spending time outdoor is a common thing.
