World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5 June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP). Since 1974 WED was held every year with different themes like "Development Without Destruction", "A Tree for Peace", "Global Warming; Global Warning", "Water: Vital Resource for Life" and many more.

On May 8, while most of Czech Republic took a day off due to a public holiday, around twenty people were part of a volunteering action at the ecological centre Toulcuv Dvur in Prague. The idea behind this action was to contribute to the upkeep of the centre, using volunteer's effort and skills. At the same time, another reason for organising this type of activity was that the participants could gain not only new experiences in return, but also new friendships and sets of competences.

The Right to Be(e) is YEE's grassroot campaign designed to help the survival of the bees. Ever since 2012, YEE invites people annually to plant bee-friendly flowers and help support these important insects. By bringing more attention to the disappearance of bees and the issue of their survival, we encourage people to take initiative and make their mark. The phrase "Thing globally, act locally" perfectly defines the ways in which every one of us can give his/ hers contribution.

This year, we scheduled our Planting Action for May 11-23 and we are urging our member organisations and friends to be a part of it. We encourage people from all over Europe to take initiative and contribute to a better habitat for the bees. Also, we are inviting people to document their well intended activities and then send to us so that we can publish it and inspire more individuals to join.

On Thursday, April 23, we at YEE along with our friends from International Young Naturefriends (IYNF) recognized this year's Earth Day by screening a documentary and having a bonfire. As might be expected, the documentary we screened, named "Cowspiracy", was related to raising environment awareness. Afterwards, we had a Q&A where we discussed about the points expressed by the movie.

The Earth Day itself, or April 22, is an annually and globally-celebrated day, on which events are held throughout the world so that people can show their support for environmental protection. It is celebrated in more than 192 countries each year and this year it marked its 45th anniversary. You can learn more about the initiative on earthday.org
