Overview
After years of informal collaboration at COPs, various European youth NGOs working on UNFCCC issues formed the Network European Youth NGOs for Climate Action (NEYCA) after COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The goal of this Network is to develop joint political positions and to advocate together for our collective political demands in the UNFCCC processes. The network aims to advocate for stronger institutionalised youth participation in climate negotiations, phasing out of fossil fuels, and more ambitious climate commitments from the States, matching the urgency for climate action.
Mission
The Network aims to provide an informal and coordinated platform for joint advocacy by European Youth NGOs towards European institutions as well as individual European countries in the context of UNFCCC processes. We strive for ambitious and equitable climate action with a view to combat ‘youth washing’ and the tokenisation of young people. Additionally, it enables NGOs to learn from one another and forge connections that translate into negotiation settings.
Objectives
- 〇 Coordinated advocacy on joint interests towards the EU and European countries, focusing on more climate ambition, an improved recognition of the needs of most affected people and areas (MAPA), and the historic responsibility of the Global North to address the climate crisis and its consequences;
- 〇 Improved coordination and exchange between European Youth NGOs;
- 〇 Provision of a platform for European youth to engage with key UNFCCC processes;
- 〇 Channeling the voices of young people in Europe to define common strategic goals and determine further action to realise those goals;
- 〇 Seek active exchange with MAPA youth to channel and leverage their demands towards the EU and European countries.
