The international training course "Volunteering: a way to environmental education" took place from the 23rd to 30th of September 2011 in the Ecological leisure time centre Švýcárna, situated in the Josefov Valley near Křtiny stream in Moravský kras (South Moravia Region, Czech Republic), which is one of the most important karst areas in Central Europe.
We are reaching the critical stage to stop one of the biggest atrocities committed in one of the most beautiful rivers in Portugal. This is a struggle spanning several years already, although all the effort being made to preserve the Tua river valley, it's natural and cultural wealth, has been contradicted by the political and economical forces organized to expropriate us of a universal common good.
ECO-UNESCO - Conserving the Environment, Empowering Young People
ECO-UNESCO is Ireland's Environmental Education and Youth Organisation affiliated to the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA). We offer a wide range of programmes and services including ECO-UNESCO Clubs, the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards, Environmental Workshops, ECO-Explorer Kids Camps, Training and even ECO-Kids Parties! ECO-UNESCO engages volunteers and interns throughout the year who offer great support and creativity to the organisation.
The Arbri Road, which significantly shortens the road between Tirana (capital of Albania) and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, many times has been center of the media's attention, reflecting the progresses of works which are progressively destroying the Canyon of Tirana River, known also as the Brari Canyon. The Canyon is declared a Natural Monument, Category III by the IUCN categorization.
Beyond Our Backyards (BoB) is an European project aiming at capacity building of actors of local agroecological initiatives (permaculture, community supported agriculture, transition initiatives, urban agriculture, among others) to study and engage in large scale political issues and processes which impact the local agroecological initiatives (e.g. seed policies, common agricultural policy, property related laws), and in the agro-ecological practices affecting these major political issues (e.g. seed exchanges, cultural practices, solidarity networks, political mobilizations). For this purpose the project brings together actors from three distinct spheres of action: academics, political activists and the developers of local agroecological initiatives.
In Armenia, among the social initiatives, huge attention is paid to actions aimed at environmental protection and preservation of green spaces, actions devoted to the protection of areas such as Teghut, Kadjaran, Hrazdan, Trchkan or Alaverdi. Many activist groups recently formed are fighting for the preservation of Armenian nature and picturesque places that are expected to be used for other purposes by the Government and other organizations.
For me choosing to participate in an EVS project in nature protection area was not a matter of choice. Before starting my EVS project ‘Volunteers in Parks International' in Germany, I was working in Romania for 6 years in the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection in the region I live. But I felt the need to gain more scientific experience from experts in the area I work in and so I thought I would like to have this experience within an EVS project.
EVS voluntary work for 6 months in Iceland with the Environment Agency of Iceland (Umhverfisstofnun, UST).
