Young and marginalised: An assessment of barriers
and opportunities for young environmentalists
accessing justice using the Aarhus Convention
Webinar – Tuesday, 12 October 2021, 13:00-15:00 CEST
Despite the growing awareness of the need for intergenerational equity, being a young environmental defender, especially from marginalised backgrounds, has proven to be challenging.
This webinar aims to provide a brief snapshot of the realities of young environmental defenders, seeking to identify barriers and protection gaps in the existing frameworks.
The workshop will then focus on the Rapid Response Mechanism and the opportunities it brings in providing immediate support to young activists, contributing to the implementation of Art.3(8) of the Aarhus Convention. Through an interactive discussion, we seek to gather recommendations for an effective and accessible Rapid
Response Mechanism that takes the needs of young people into account.
