Local Youth Environmental Assembly

YEE will be hosting a total of two events, scheduled for 8th and 9th of March 2022. The aim of the first round of workshop will be to open general discussions within European youth and stakeholders on UN mechanisms and how they can be best involved. The second round of workshop will then take the opportunity to dive into specifics of UNEA 5.2. including inviting YEE UNEA 5.2. delegates and respective UN agency representatives to help us in understanding the outcomes of the conference and how this will impact youth and youth organisations across Europe.

Background

Europe is expected to play a pivotal role at the upcoming UNEA 5.2 and YEE as the largest European youth organisation focusing on empowering young people across Europe found it befitting to host a regional LYEA to not only raise awareness of the role that as a continent we must play to safeguard the planet but also to educate our youth on what is expected to happen in UNEA 5.2.

The main aim of the workshop will be to empower European youth in understanding the correlation between European and UN level and what are the current environmental topics on the global agenda. The goal is then to conclude the workshop with a position paper from the European youth to their member states participating in the UNEA 5.2.

The sessions will be designed in a way to enable young people from marginalised communities and non-EU member states across Europe to participate in and voice their positions. Although the official language of the meeting will be English, we will be collaborating with expert youth organisations located across Europe to reach marginalised groups and will disseminate the calls on channels where non-EU youth are gathering on, such as the Franco-Russian Youth dialogue.
