Overview
The European Green Deal has created many new laws to protect the environment: now it is crucial to ensure their correct implementation.
The project is based on the belief that empowered individuals and civil society, when exercising their environmental democracy rights, will ensure better compliance with EU environmental and climate law.
It aims to influence the “rules of the game” and empower people to use the law to benefit the environment and climate.
Therefore, the project empowers individuals and NGOs to exercise environmental democracy rights enshrined in the UN Aarhus Convention, namely:
- Access environmental information
- Take part in decisions that affect the environment
- Access justice in environmental matters
as to enhance compliance with EU environmental and climate laws, strengthening environmental governance across Europe.
Who is the project for?
The BeLIFE project is here to support and empower individuals and NGOs to play an active role in strengthening environmental governance across Europe, with a special focus on young environmental defenders.
